The Hex Files will be closed to submissions on January 18th, 2012 from midnight (the 17th) until midnight the 18th (Eastern time) in protest of the proposed SOPA/PIPA law that's going to be voted on next week in the United States Senate.

If you try to upload any content to The Hex Files, you will be unable to do so.

I'm really desperate for help. I haven't been on lj in awhile (school, sports, etc) and I didn't realize that Loui of Hexfiles was removing her work. If anyone has her fics saved, could I get a link to download it? Thanks!

It looks like we are finished. DNS may or may not have propagated for your individual locations, but it has propagated for me and for the host who is located inn Chicago. I am going to wait one more day before turning submissions back on just to be safe, but the archive is open for reading.

Many thanks to Singlehop hosting for getting us up and running in no time, but more than anyone else thanks to all of you for saving us from becoming fandom history.

As of right now, both sites have been transferred to the new server and everything is looking good for The Hex Files. I was able to access the site using the IP address and it looks good so far. We are running into a bit of a snag with HPFandom because when Just Host took on the accounts, they made it so HPF was a subdomain of The Hex Files, and it appears all file associations for HPF are listed as though it was still a subdomain. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. It also appears that the old host has un-suspended the accounts, so they might be good for reading only at this time. I shut off the ability to post just to be on the safe side.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. :)

Although the sites appear to be up, this is only so that the new host can get the data to transfer over. I have turned off the ability to login or post because you may lose any new data once the move is complete and I'd hate for you to have to repost.

I just want to say that the Harry Potter fandom has to be the most caring and generous fandom I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. Well, it's the only fandom I have ever been a part of, but that's beside the point.

Thanks to your generosity we have collected 803.99 (at last look) which is enough to keep both archives in hosting for the next five months.

I have already set things rolling with SingleHop, and JustHost has just sent the migration link. I am waiting to hear back from SingleHop regarding the migration, but will keep an eye on progress through their LEAP system, which I really love, because it allows me see what is going on whilst they work on our ticket.

At this point in time I do not have a clear estimate as to when we will be up again, but I do not anticipate it being too long. At least I am hoping it won't be long.

With humble thanks and best regards

First of all, I want to send thanks to everyone that has stepped up to help. You've all really come through for us. Thank you!

Second: I will never again believe anyone when they say something is unlimited, and will be especially skeptical if they insist they can handle our two sites on one account. It just isn't so.

I just got off the phone with a very nice person at Singlehop, and the ball is in motion to get us transferred and back up and running. We are waiting for a back-up of the accounts on Just Host, and they will send me a migration link that I will provide to Singlehop in order for them to
get us back online. I do not as yet have an estimate of how long this process might take, but be assured we are working on things as we speak. Keep your fingers crossed!

For those who asked, our new costs will be $149.00 a month, which is better than the $179.00 per month we were paying.

I will continue to keep you updated as things progress.

Update (crossposted to hpfdotnet and hex_companion):

When I set up the host that suspended us they told me we had unlimited bandwidth, unlimited everything. I tried to set up two separate accounts for both Hex and HPF just to be safe, but they assured me that one account would be fine (even after I told them we were high traffic)and it appeared to be so until this suspension hit us out of the blue about CPU overuse. They directed me to a 'partner company' and their dedicated server. Mind, I told them before that I was on a dedicated server, but that costs were high and I wanted to downgrade a bit.

I have seen all the suggestions in both communities and will be investigating them all tomorrow when I'm not in bed and my mind is fresh. I promise you here and now that neither archive will close. Each hosts works by authors no longer in the fandom, and are the only place their stories can be found, so I feel a responsibility to the fandom to make sure they are always available.

In the meantime, if you wish to contribute, I have the link that is used for The Hex Files, but be aware that in the recent past all HPF contributions also come to the account for Hex as we share a server and I maintain and administrate both.
